The Public have been urged to celebrate nurses in appreciation of their tireless efforts and roles in patients’ healthcare as they mark the International Nurses week.
A Nurse and lecturer in the Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, UNEC, Mrs. Ijeoma Judith Ilo, made the call in an interview with Radio Nigeria.
According to Mrs. Ijeoma Ilo, nurses are the ones always by the patient’s bedside giving evidence-based care.
Mrs. Ilo noted that not all hospital attendants in white dresses are nurses and that patients or patients relatives should be able to question the professionalism of an attendant that is not upright.
She stated that the Nursing Council of Nigeria is doing everything within its power to rid our hospitals of quack and fake nurses to ensure safety of patients.
The International Nurses week is an annual event that starts from May 10th to 16th every year.
The objective is to amplify the voices of Nurses and healthcare professionals and give them a platform to discuss issues concerning nurses and nursing practice.
The theme for this year is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A Vision for Future Healthcare”.
