On Monday Chelsea appointed Leicester boss Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a five-year deal to replace the departed Mauricio Pochettino.
Born in Pontecagnano Faiano, Province of Salerno, Maresca started playing football at the age of 11 with A.C. Milan and joined Cagliari after three years. He began his professional career with English club West Bromwich Albion, despite having “no grasp of the English language
The Italian, 44, was appointed by the Foxes in June 2023 and led them to the Championship title last season.
Chelsea said they were “thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family”.
“He is a highly gifted coach and leader that we are confident can help fulfill our vision and competitive goals for the club,” said the club’s ownership group.
Maresca is obsessed by patient possession and positional play, his go-to system is 4-3-3 and the Chelsea hierarchy are convinced his approach will suit the technically gifted 25 man squad.
