A non-governmental organization, the Southern Nigeria Peoples Mandate, says Nigeria’s current cost of living and food scarcity crisis cannot be resolved through politicking.

In a statement on Friday, president of the group, Augustine Chukwuedum and Secretary General, Segun Diya, said that statements by government officials which are not backed by measurable actions become deceptive when the hunger situation in many families is getting worse.
The group asked the federal government to honestly and verifiably reduce the cost of governance, mobilize security agencies to resolve insecurity and collaborate with state governments to harness Nigeria’s agriculture resources.

The organization said it will amount to a contradiction to expect hungry Nigerians whose concern is to survive to become patriotic.

The group commended the efforts by the Tinubu administration to tackle the nation’s foreign exchange challenges but noted that visible corruption, low productivity and incompetent political appointments work against such efforts.

While calling on president Bola Tinubu to make good his election promises especially in transportation and security, they said equipping the Nigerian security agencies with high tech facilities remain a most reliable step towards realizing the promises.
