Community Secondary School Umuode Honours Prof. Barth Nnaji For Transforming Education In The Area

The management, staff, and students of Community Secondary School, Umuode, rolled out the drums to celebrate an illustrious son of the community and renowned engineer, Professor Barth Nnaji and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Agatha Nnaji.

Titled “A Day with Professor Barth Nnaji” the school and the community used the occasion to appreciate the visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment of the accomplished scholar, philanthropist and former Minister of Power to the transformation of education in the school and beyond.

In her welcome address, the Principal of the school, Edith Eze highlighted the numerous interventions of the former minister through the provision of a borehole, installation of a solar-powered electricity, upgrade of the school’s computer laboratory and as well the establishment of a digital library in the school.

These projects she said have changed the face of education and enhanced teaching and learning in the entire community and beyond.

The highly elated Professor Barth Nnaji said the recognition was deeply humbling, noting that his greatest accomplishment comes from improving lives and creating opportunities for future generations through education and innovation.

President-General of Umuode Community, Obiora Owube commended Prof Nnaji and his wife for their enduring support, which he described as a great catalyst for the remarkable progress being witnessed in the community.

Dr. Mrs. Agatha Nnaji, while appreciating the school’s management and students for the honour, announced plans to scale up
practical learning in the school.

She disclosed that from the next academic session, the school will adopt a 70 per cent practical and 30 per cent theoretical approach to better equip students with relevant skills. 

The event featured colourful cultural performances, skills exhibitions, debate presentations, indigenous language news presentations, drama displays, and the presentation of gifts to the distinguished guests.

The celebration no doubt, underscored the growing role of private citizens and community leaders in complementing government efforts to improve education while inspiring young people to pursue excellence through knowledge, innovatio, and service.
