CORRUPTION DROPS IN THE NIGERIAN JUDICIARY – FOUNDATION

The Executive Director of Cleen Foundation, a non-governmental Organization, Benson Olugbuo says the incidence of asking for and accepting bribe in the Nigerian Judiciary has dropped significantly.

Olugbuo, who spoke at the fifth meeting of the National project working group of the foundation in Abuja on Thursday also said that women are less prone to corruption and should be considered for more political positions.

The meeting which focused on the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria was attended by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Bar Association , The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and some state partners.

A principal registrar in the Federal Ministry of Justice Zainab Ibrahim, who represented the Deputy chief registrar, litigations, said Federal high courts are free of corruption and rules are followed to the letter.

She regretted however that the police still prosecute many criminal offences at the lower courts where they accept bribes to frustrate faithful prosecution of cases.

Representative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , Richard Dauda said that the Nigerian Bar Association and the Judiciary have been collaborating in the anti-graft war adding that the commission had recorded many convictions and asset seizure in its fight against corruption.
