The media office of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has described a recent High Court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State, concerning the legal status of the party as a temporary setback, insisting that it will not derail its political movement.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the organisation said it had been inundated with inquiries from newsrooms and supporters over what it described as a “strange” court judgment.

The statement noted that its legal team was reviewing the ruling and would immediately commence corrective legal steps, including an appeal where necessary.

According to POMR, Obi urged supporters, coalition partners and Nigerians backing the movement to remain calm and focused despite the development.

“We always knew that the journey to dismantle a deeply entrenched and grossly underperforming political status quo would be met with fierce institutional resistance and unexpected legal detours,” the statement said.

It described the Lokoja court ruling as “a hurdle, not a stop sign,” maintaining that the commitment to building “a transparent, legitimate and formidable alternative for Nigerians” remains firm.
