Covid-19: Allied Health Professionals warn FG on Chinese Doctors invitation

The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals has condemned the move by the Federal Government  to welcome Chinese medical doctors in to Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the National President, Dr O C Ogbonna, the Union asked a number of questions including whether the Chinese had found a  cure and the experience they are coming with, that Nigerian health professionals are not employing already.

“We handled Bird Flu, Lassa Fever and Ebola diseases ourselves without the invitation of any foreign based experts. It’s not even ideal now that the entire world is suspecting China in the complexities of this covid-19” the statement added.

In conclusion the statement queried the intention of the Chinese doctors “How are we sure that these Chinese doctors are not coming in with the muted strain of the coronavirus which may be genetically more harmful to the black race”.

The union therefore strongly advises the Federal Government to “tread softly on this matter. It is better to put this plan on hold in the midst of the controversies surrounding China’s involvement in Covid-19.

In the past few days many individuals and organisations including the Nigerian Union of Journalists, have opposed the Federal  Government’s acceptance of the Chinese offer to send doctors to Nigeria, to assist in the fight against Coronavirus.
