COVID-19: RAMAPHOSA CALLS FOR AFRICAN-MADE VACCINES

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at a conference organised by Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Monday called on the African continent to rise to the challenge and manufacture her own Covid-19 vaccines just like developing countries around the globe, especially as the continent lags behind in vaccine administration.

The President said that Africa could get technological assistance from other countries like India and Brazil on how they have developed their pharmaceutical system over time.

Ramophosa also emphasized the need for capacity building in term of sustainability in local manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.

Africa has been least affected by the pandemic with total of 4.35million cases leading to 115,000 deaths among the 1.2billion deaths recorded worldwide.
