The wife of detained Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, Yuki, has urgently appealed to the Federal Government for his release on humanitarian grounds due to his deteriorating health. In a statement by spokesperson Monique Thompson, Yuki described her husband’s severe condition, including a herniated disc requiring risky surgery. Tigran’s health has worsened since his collapse in court on May 23, 2024, and despite repeated legal requests, essential medical care has reportedly been withheld.

Tigran’s legal team, led by Mark Mordi, has raised concerns about his life being at risk if he remains in Kuje prison without proper medical attention. Despite a judge’s order on July 5 for the release of his medical records, this directive was not followed. On July 16, the court ordered Tigran’s transfer to Nizamiye Hospital for treatment, but his legal team has been denied access to him since July 26, violating Nigerian law.

Yuki, reflecting on the emotional toll on their family, particularly their five-year-old son, expressed fears that Tigran’s untreated condition could lead to permanent damage. She pleaded with the Nigerian government to allow him to return home for urgent medical care.

Tigran’s legal battle continues, with court dates set for October. Meanwhile, American lawmakers are urging the U.S. government to declare Tigran “wrongfully detained” in Nigeria. Binance, which reportedly had a turnover exceeding $20 billion in Nigeria in 2023, has been accused of operating without proper registration or tax payments in the country. The Nigerian government asserts that Tigran is receiving necessary medical care and consular services.
