As Christians across the world celebrate the Easter season, marking the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, some stakeholders and well wishers have continued to felicitate with the Christian faithful.
Joining other stakeholders in celebrating with the Christian faithful, the immediate past Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said the resurrection of the Lord Jesus is fundamental to all Christians.
In statement posted on his verified Twitter handle, Jonathan called on Christians and all Nigerians to prioritise love, peace and unity as a means of tackling the current security and economic challenges bedeviling the country.
According to him, “the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are at the cornerstone of the Christian faith. At Easter, Christians celebrate hope, eternal life, salvation, and redemption.
“On this year’s Easter, I call on all Christians to imbibe and sustain godly values of righteousness, peace and justice which are the true nature of Christ.
“As we celebrate, I urge all Christians and all Nigerians to work in love, peace and unity and exercise faith and hope, so we can overcome our current national challenges and build a prosperous nation”.
Similarly, the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, in a statement on his social media handle, called on all Christians in the State not to allow the lessons of Easter brought by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ elude them.
Ishaku, who also preached peace and forgiveness, expressed joy that normalcy was returning to some parts of the state hitherto experiencing unrest.
“I want to remind us of the importance and significance of Easter in the Christian Calendar, which also is a period that Christ, the Son of God, demonstrated the greatest act of compassion, humility and sacrifice for mankind to have salvation.
“I urge Christians to constantly remind themselves of the virtues of peace and forgiveness which Christ amply demonstrated throughout his trial and crucifixion and to allow these virtues to reflect in their conduct and relationship with fellow Christians and humanity generally.
“I am glad that peace has gradually returned to the trouble spots and communities in Taraba State, and I assure Tarabans that everything will be done to ensure that this achievement is sustained. I will also like to plead with Tarabans of all ethnic backgrounds, religious faiths and political affiliations to forget their differences and to work together in the interest of peace and development.
“Unity and vigilance should be our weapons against insecurity. My administration is working hard with security agencies to end kidnappings and killings of innocent people by criminals, thus, I solicit for the support of all men and women of goodwill towards the success of these efforts.
“I want to encourage Tarabans to take the COVID-19 vaccination which is now available in the state and to continue to observe all protocols against the spread of the pandemic.
“I wish all Christians a happy Easter celebration”, Gov Dickson stated.
Also, the Senator that represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu San on his verified Twitter handle, sent his goodwill message to Christians.
“This is to wish all Christians celebrating Easter a happy and blessed Holy Easter Season”, Senator Shehu Sani Tweeted.
