EFCC Enugu Zone, Others, Walk Against Corruption to Mark the International Anti-Corruption Day

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zone, on Saturday, November 9, organized a walk against Corruption in celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day with the theme “UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption” in Enugu.

The walk which featured EFCC and sister agencies was to preach to Nigerians to be aware of the harm corruption does to the country.

In his address on behalf of the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Olu Olukoyede, the Enugu Zonal Commander, ACE 1 Aliyu Nuhu Naibi, said that today is International Anti-Corruption Day and for them at EFCC, it is a special occasion as it offers them an opportunity to review their work, engage with stakeholders and consider fresh perspectives to consolidate the gains of the fight against economic and financial crimes and other forms of corrupt practices.

He said that all over the world, corruption is a threat to the growth and development of individuals and nations, adding that no one is immune to the contagion of corruption which is why nations are united in finding solutions to this common ailment.

The Commander maintained that the theme of the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day, UNCAC @ 20: Uniting the World against Corruption is fitting and a tribute to the revolutionary impact which this organ of the United Nations has had in mobilising and directing global action against corruption.

He explained that UNCAC, through its resolutions and interventions has become the fulcrum of the global resistance against corruption. Successful anti-corruption models across the world are built on the recommendation of UNCAC.

He said that the United Nations Convention of Anti Corruption has done so much and contributed so much in the fight against Corruption, and the world truly owes them a debt of commendation.

And how best to do this is by rededicating and recommitting themselves to the implementation of all the recommendations of this important anti-corruption organ.

Speaking to the Journalists, the Commander said with the help of the sister agencies in the Country the fight against Corruption will be achieved.

He revealed that the major problem they face in the zone is how people use land to defraud others and the issue of cybercrime.

He called for traditional and other institutions to come together to educate the people on the menace Corruption brings to Society.

Also the Country Director of Global Society For Anti-Corruption, Ambassador Amaka Nweke, said that Corruption undermines the development of the nation, and the economic disaster we face today is as a result of Corruption.

She maintained that is the reason they have come to join other anti-corruption agencies to sensitize the people so that they will know that corruption does not promote any society.

She said the fight against Corruption requires synergy and collective effort to kill the deadly disease that eats them up everyday in Nigeria.

Likewise, the Chief Executive Officer Jkings Properties, Ambassador Uche Nwachukwu said the walk is to teach the people what corruption is all about and also how to avoid it.

He said this is the only way politics and governance can be differentiated.

In attendance were the representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Airforce, Nigeria Police, Nigerian Civil defence, Civil Society organisation and so many others.
