The Chairman of the Enugu State Hospitals management board, Dr Eric Odo has threatened to suspend non performing chief medical officers in the state.

Odo who just assumed office issued the warning in Enugu on Wednesday during his maiden meeting with all the chief medical officers of general and cottage hospitals in the state.

He said that the meeting marks a great turn around in the board adding that he would no longer tolerate the attitude which most of the medical officers displayed while carrying out their duty.

The chairman appreciated them for the work they had done so far noting that their efforts was not good enough to save people’s life.

Odo who frowned at the poor management of the hospitals under them said he would soon come out with the do’s and don’ts that would guide hospital administration and management henceforth .

He charged the chief medical officers to take full charge of the hospital under their watch and to ensure that positive measures are being taken saying he would not tolerate cases of dereliction of duty, absenteeism, lateness to work and out right corrupt practices.

Odo urged them to always sustain and maintain their various hospitals and make them functional since that would be the major criterion upon which they would be rated.

The chief medical officers in their response enumerated some of their challenges to include inadequate personnel, lack of power supply, dilapidated buildings, moribund equipment and lack of operational vehicles among other impediments.

The medical officers however, appreciated the new chairman for his zeal to turn things around and promised to put in their best to ensure a positive change.
