The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara says he is committed to working with the Tinubu administration to prosecute policies designed to make life better for Nigerians.

Governor Fubara made the remarks when members of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee Investigating the Turnaround Maintenance of Nigeria’s Refineries, led by its Chairman, Ifeanyi Ubah paid him a courtesy visit at Government House in Port Harcourt Friday night.

He said it was for this reason that the state government embarked on the rehabilitation of the Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road, now 70 percent completed to provide a bypass to the Port Harcourt Refinery and take off traffic from the East-West Road.

The Governor said the purpose of governance is to make life easy for the people, and expressed delight that the Senate Committee’s investigation would help reposition the oil industry for the better.

Governor Fubara pointed out that the successful revamping of tne refineries will make fuel importation a thing of the past and impact positively on the economy.

The government he said will remain focused even in the face of deliberate distractions warning that anybody who disrespects a man in authority either for his age or status would receive greater pain.

He regretted that the Senator representing his own senatorial district did not want them to come to Rivers State saying their insistence on making the trip, and doing what is right is a mark of integrity.

The Chairman of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on the Turnaround Maintenance of Nigeria’s Refineries, Ifeanyi Ubah disclosed that the committee was at the Warri Refinery on Thursday, and had come to Port Harcourt to investigate the work that has been done and assess the level of preparedness of both the old and new Port Harcourt Refinery to recommence operations.

He said the committee is pleased with what they saw and observed that the rehabilitation and upgrade are almost 90 percent completed and expressed confidence that they will commence operations before the end of the year.

The old Port Harcourt Refinery was the first refinery in Nigeria built in 1965, and the second one was built in 1989 and have not been in active operations for so long.
