The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah wants the National Assembly to use the opportunity of the ongoing constitutional amendment process to address longstanding demands for equity and inclusion for the South East region.

He renewed his call for the establishment of state police, rotational presidency, and the creation of an additional state in the South East geopolitical zone.

Governor Mbah made the call when he received the South East Zonal Committee of the House of Representatives on Constitution Review at the Government House.

Mbah, who described the visit as both timely and symbolic, recalled the history of Enugu as the seat of the Eastern Regional House of Assembly, which began sitting in the 1940s stating that the evolution of legislative activities in the country is incomplete without talking about Enugu.

The governor said that the current review process is a reminder that the constitution is about the people and must therefore reflect the collective will and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
