Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has expressed his willingness to re-evaluate the agreement between his administration and pensioners in the state, despite his previous strong stance against their leadership.

The governor made this known during a church service at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia Chapel, held to celebrate the 80th birthday of Senator Chris Adighije.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding pension payments, Governor Otti emphasized the need for honesty and accountability.

He acknowledged that pensioners were not paid in 2018 but attributed part of the problem to their leadership.

The governor expressed his displeasure over the leadership’s denial of the agreement after payments had been made, suggesting that they might not have believed the government would fulfill its commitment.

However, in response to the concerns raised, Otti assured that he would take another look at the matter.

Governor Otti had during his monthly media chat, previously taken a firm position against the leadership of pensioners in the state, labeling them as “dishonest people” and insisting that his administration would not engage with them on the issue of pension arrears.

Governor Otti maintained that his administration has been consistent in paying pensions fully and on time, adding that those unhappy with their payments are free to return the money.
