Igbo youths insist on Malami’s resignation over alleged invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s Abuja residence

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest socio-cultural organization in Igbo land, has joined in lending voices on the demand for the resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice,Abubakar Malami, on the alleged invasion of the Abuja home of a Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili by armed security men.

The Igbo youths tasked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government of Nigeria, on thorough investigation of the incident.

Recall that Justice Odili’s family residence at Imo Rivers Street in Maitama was said to have been besieged by fully armed plain-clothed security men for undisclosed reasons at about 5pm of Friday, October 29.

Security operatives guarding the house were said to have resisted the take over of the house without a court order or instructions from the above.

However, a statement by the acting National Youth Leader, Onwasoanya FCC Jones on Monday, the youth wing, also requested that beyond calls for the resignation of Abubakar Malami, government should get to the roots of the investigation and bring all the security officers involved in the attempted assassination” to book.

According to the Ohanaeze youths, “this shouldn’t one of those unresolved and endless investigations, the federal government should for once prove that a high profile investigation can be conclusive and that public officials could be held responsible for their excesses”.

The Igbo youth group regretted over the ugly scenario, describing the alleged invasion as a “Igbophobic inspired attack on the judiciary.

It claimed, “Justice Mary Odiii couldn’t have committed any other crime known to our laws, except the fact that she is Igbo, bears an Igbo name and she had managed by pure dint of hard work and integrity to rise to an enviable height in her chosen career as a justice of the supreme court”.

The Ohanaeze youths further argued that if the operation wasn’t aimed at something sinister, those involved would have come out boldly to own it up.

According to the youth wing, “the mission was to abduct the honorable Justice and kill her off because she is Igbo and she is occupying a very sensitive position in one of the arms of government. Fortunately, she was smart enough to resist that obnoxious attempt on her life, hence, all the agencies and individuals involved have distanced themselves from the operation. Sadly, that is the same way, everyone of them would have denied culpability, if we had woken up to hear that some uniform wearing operatives abducted her and killed her off.”

Parts of the statement said, “the Igbophobic cabal in the current Federal Government cannot stomach the fact that an Igbo has the slightest chance of heading any arm of the Federal Government, while they are still in charge, hence, they could go the extreme level of attempting to abduct her and possibly assassinate her in the pretext of trying to conduct a search on her house.”

“The denials from all affected agencies even when there is a strong evidence linking the Ministry of Justice to the invasion confirms one of two things about the head of that Ministry; either he is incompetent, hence, not in charge, or that he is being dishonest about the whole incident. In either case, Malam Malami should resign as the Attorney-General of the Federation or the President sacks him from that position, because he has continued to use that office to advance his Igbophobic agenda rather than serve the lawful interests of our dear Republic.”
