Imo Governorship: Ugomuoh Throws His Hat Into The Ring

With about two years to the end of the tenure of Hope Uzodinma as governor of Imo state, moves to take over his job has already begun.

In Abuja, on Saturday, September 17, 2022, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Dr. Charles Ugomuoh signalled his intention to move into the Douglas House, Owerri, the Imo governor’s office.

He declared his resolve to contest for the governorship seat anytime the trumpet sounded.

Dr. Ugomuoh, had invited top brass of Mbaise people in Abuja to his residence to celebrate the Iriji Oluru Mbasie festival, a cultural event that annually draws Mbaise people of Imo State together wherever they are.

He spoke of the central nature of the festival in the cultural calendar

Some of the guests at the new yam celebration expressed their excitement and spoke about the significance of the new yam festival and what it means to Nigerian culture.

Iri ji Mbaise is an annual event which is celebrated every 15th of august to signal the beginning of harvest season in Mbaise nation. The celebration dates years back brings Mbaise sons and daughters together and is widely attended by visitors.
