Imo lawyer abducted, policewoman shot during attack dies

The policewoman shot during an attack on the Isiala Mbano divisional police headquarters, Imo State, on Saturday, is dead.

It was gathered that the victim died on Sunday at a hospital where she was rushed to after some gunmen attacked and razed the police facility.

A top source confirmed the death to our correspondent on Sunday.

The source said, “She could not make it. She sustained serious gunshot injuries from the gunmen during the attack and we lost her today (Sunday).”

A spokesperson for the police in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the development, saying the command was saddened by her death.

In another development, the President General of the Luwe Nneire autonomous community, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Chima Awurum, has been kidnapped.

Our correspondent gathered that Awurum, a lawyer, was kidnapped in his office by the gunmen who set the Isiala Mbano divisional police headquarters ablaze.

A source told our correspondent that the hoodlums abducted the community leader while fleeing the scene of the attack.

The Secretary-General of the Luwe Nneire community, Chidi Nwofor, said the victim was abducted after presiding over a meeting in the village.

Nwofor said, “They had to break the protectors to whisk him away. His abductors abandoned the vehicle of a businessman they snatched at Umuelemai and continued with a 4matic SUV they came in. The police from Owerri came on Sunday and took the vehicle away.”
