Protesting pensioners in Imo State were in for trouble on Tuesday as they were flogged by youths allegedly engaged by the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission, ENTRACO, in an apparent bid to stop the demonstration of the retirees.
This comes as the leader of the protesting pensioners, Ohaegbu, was arrested by the officials of the Department of State Services, DSS.
The retired workers had had a running battle with supporters of the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma as some of them were teargassed sometime ago while protesting the non payment of their pensions.
The pensioners have been demonstrating over non payment of their pensions running into months by the Hope Uzodinma led administration in Imo State.
No fewer than four of the senior citizens fainted a few weeks ago while demonstrating close to the government House in Owerri.
The pensioners had complained that the Imo State Government had not paid their pensions for several months and vowed that they would not relent until the arrears of their pensions are fully paid.
