JUST IN: Nnamdi Kanu’s trial adjourned

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, adjourned further proceedings in the case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, till Wednesday after he objected to the fresh charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The court is now expected to reconvene on Wednesday for Kanu to take his plea.

It had been reported that the Federal Government on Monday amended the charges it filed against the secessionist at the Federal High Court in Abuja, increasing the counts to include terrorism.

Consequently, the initial seven counts bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism, against Kanu, increased to 15.

But Kanu objected to the fresh charges as his trial resumed on Tuesday amid heavy security presence at the court.

Earlier on Tuesday, one of the lead counsels for Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, announced that Human Rights Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), will now lead the delegation of lawyers representing Kanu.

At exactly 9:50 a.m., the Biafra Nation agitator arrived the courtroom of the Federal High Court in Abuja in preparation for his fresh arraignment on 15-count terrorism charges.

Kanu was welcomed into the courtroom by four members of his family and later exchanged pleasantries with his lawyers, led by Ozekhome.
