Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has pledged his administration’s unwavering support for the families of fallen heroes, lauding their bravery and patriotism in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Ododo gave this assurance during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration after laying wreaths at the World War I and II Cenotaph in Lokoja on Wednesday.

He highlighted the significance of Armed Forces Remembrance Day, describing it as a time to honour and reflect on the contributions of the armed forces to nation-building.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes and providing for veterans who served Nigeria with distinction.

He also called on Nigerians to unite in their collective efforts to sustain the peace achieved by the current administration.

Ododo announced the immediate enrolment of widows and children of fallen heroes into free health insurance coverage under the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme.

He further pledged ongoing support for injured officers and men of the armed forces in Kogi State, urging unity in building a nation worthy of their sacrifices.

“As we honour our gallant men who protected Nigeria’s sovereignty and gave their lives so that we can enjoy peace, we remember them and pray that Almighty Allah forgives their shortcomings.

“We celebrate them for what they stood for – peace, unity, and hope.

“I pledge my continued support to the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and stand firmly behind the wives and children of our fallen heroes by providing free healthcare through the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme,” he said.

Governor Ododo also commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising peace and security as part of his administration’s renewed hope agenda.

The event featured the traditional wreath-laying ceremony, where the governor, alongside military commanders, traditional rulers, and representatives of army veterans, paid tributes to the fallen heroes.

The ceremony honoured the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who lost their lives in various military conflicts, including World War I and II, the Nigerian Civil War, and peacekeeping missions.
