21 year old Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania broke the men’s discus record of 38years at the throws meet in Ramona, Oklahoma with 74.35m.
His throw which was the his fifth effort was initially measured at 74.41m but was later revised down by 6cm. The world athletics said that the new record by Alekna is still subject to the usual ratification process.
Alekna’s record breaks German Jurgen schult’s record set in 1986 who threw 74.08m.

Alekna’s record topples that of his father a two time Olympic champion of 2000 and 2004 to 3rd on the all time list with 73.88m in 2000. It sure runs in the family.
