Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, today visited the Tudun Wada Market, which was engulfed by fire last night as a result of an electrical fault, which occurred at a frozen fish shop in the market.
During the visit, the governor commiserated with the victims calling on them to consider the accident as an act of Allah, saying that they should always check on their electrical appliances before leaving their shops at the end of the day’s business.
The governor noted that the state government will reconstruct the 63 shops that were affected by the disaster Pointing Out that he has immediately directed the Sole Administrator of Gusau Local Government Area to start work soonest.
He also constituted a committee under a renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma to ascertain the losses of the traders and submit its report within the next seven days so that the state government can assist the victims to return to their respective businesses.
Matawalle explained that his government will continue to support marketers and other traders for the economic prosperity of the state.
While conducting the governor round the affected shops, the Chairman of the United Traders Association, Alhaji Balan vice, said the fire started around 4am of Sunday and that since then, the traders as well as officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries did not rest on their oars but assisted in stopping the inferno from further spread.
He said, “The team also took inventory of the affected shops which stood at 63 shops and that officials of the traders association had maintained full security cover against miscreants.”
Alhaji Balan commended the governor for his concern and for visiting the market immediately noting that the support and attention the traders are receiving from the state government are immeasurable.
The governor was accompanied by some senior government functionaries in the state.
