Media Remains The Heartbeat Of Every Nation – Ladan Salihu As WABMA Commissions Abuja Campus

The former Director General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Ladan Salihu, says there is no doubt that Nigeria is going through difficult times but the media remains the best tool that can unite and bring the country together through objective storytelling.

Salihu who was the Chairman, at the commissioning of the new WABMA Abuja Campus and the  2023 Long Course graduation ceremony Thursday, believes the media has a lot to do to hold leaders and citizens to account for transparency and accountability.

He reminded the graduands that they have the ability and capacity to change the world based on the training they have received, charging them to be professional and ethical at all times.

In his address, the Rector of the Academy, Ike Okere, said WABMA is dedicated to shaping the next generation of media professionals, so they can adequately face the challenges of a dynamic and fast-evolving digital media landscape. 

He said the Academy has three campuses across the country in Enugu, Lagos and Abuja with the aim of further expansion so that every region in the country is covered.

According to Okere, plans were at an advanced stage for the takeoff of three new campuses outside the country, in Ghana, Senegal and Cameroon

The Rector, called on citizens and organizations to partner with WABMA to train a larger number of young Nigerians in media practice.

He added that the Academy has trained more than Three thousand people across the country and is steadily expanding its training facilities and capacity to train more Nigerians in different courses that are innovative and life-changing.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of Signature TV, VinMartin Obiora Ilo, said learning is a continuous thing in life as he charged the graduands to be hardworking and humble.

He advised that humility and commitment are important in journalism, as the profession demands lifelong learning and creates avenues for different opportunities in life.

The graduating students appreciated the academy for providing such an avenue for them to acquire knowledge in journalism. 

They pledged to make a meaningful impact in society with the knowledge acquired especially in their news reportage. 

West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy is a multinational national, multi-spectrum and multi-disciplined training institute, that was established in November 2020, aimed at training a new crop of media practitioners that will be professional, ethical and innovative in plying their journalism trade. 

WABMA is also a platform for online learning and professional development in broadcasting, journalism, public speaking and new media among others.
