NACA launches community –led Monitoring.

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS NACA, on Wednesday launched a report on the monitoring of the incidence, access to treatment and other responses to the HIV Challenge in Nigeria.

The report titled Community -Led Report and Framework on HIV and AIDS is an initiative to scale up community responses to HIV to at least 30 percent by the year 2030.

The Director General of NACA, Dr Aliyu Gambo said the framework in the report would ensure greater availability and access to quality HIV care communities to seek appropriate information.

The framework will also increase health literacy, expand engagement bon health delivery as well as address issues of stigma, discrimination and other human rights violations.

Dr Gambo said that the Network of persons living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria, NEPWHAN was selected to implement the Maiden framework in Nigeria and promised that NACA will extend all necessary support to the network.

The National Coordinator of the Network of persons living with HIV/ AIDS in Nigeria, Ibrahim Abuldulkadir said that Data collected from the framework will be made available to the health authorities to provide solution to health issues and service delivery challenges.

He called on the United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS to continue it’s support to the network to ensure that the new framework is replicated among other communities.

The United Nations Ambassador Mary  Leonard  pledged the support of the UN to the community -led monitoring framework.

She lighted same area where the UN has assisted in protecting human rights as well as the fight against HIV and AIDS.

 

The launch of the community-led Report and framework was flagged -off by the Executive director of the United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS , Winnie Byanyima. It is a key strategy to boost the relevance and independent watch role of people living with HIV
