NDC Disowns Purported OK Movement PCC, Refers Ugulu For Disciplinary Committee

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dissociated itself from the purported Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) announced under the name of the “OK Movement”, saying the structure did not receive the approval of the party’s leadership.

The party, in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, said it had noted with concern a publication credited to one John Ugulu announcing a Presidential Campaign Council under the guise of the OK Movement.

The NDC described the announcement as unauthorised and urged members of the public and the media to disregard it.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the party wishes to state categorically as follows: The party hereby dissociates itself in totality from the said OK Movement PCC announcement. It did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded by the public and the media,” the statement said.

The party stressed that candidates contesting elections on its platform were not independent candidates and remained subject to the authority and discipline of the party.

According to the NDC, only the party leadership has the authority to constitute and announce its Presidential Campaign Council.

It further warned members, candidates and support groups against taking actions capable of undermining the party or damaging its public standing.

“Henceforth, no individual or group is authorised to announce, constitute, or publish any campaign council, structure, or organ in the name of the party without prior approval from the National Working Committee (NWC),” it said.

The party, however, acknowledged the contributions of support groups and said it remained open to collaboration with organisations backing its political agenda.

The NDC urged such groups not to operate as alternative structures or parallel organs of the party, saying grievances should be channelled through the appropriate internal mechanisms rather than through public attacks.

The statement also announced disciplinary action against Ugulu, citing what the party described as his “affront and excesses” during the party’s primary election in Lagos State, as well as his alleged repeated disregard for party authority.

The party said Ugulu had been referred to the appropriate disciplinary organ for necessary action in accordance with the provisions of its constitution.

The NDC said it remained focused on its issue-based campaign and its commitment to what it described as delivering “a New Nigeria that is Possible.”
