NDLEA Making Effort To Reduce Drug-Related Crimes In Nigeria- MARWA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it is addressing the issues of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in communities nationwide, and it has launched public awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.

The Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa, who was represented by Dr. Ibraheem Baba, Commander of Narcotics, Drugs Demand Reduction, made the statement during a Paper Presented at a Symposium Organized by National Youth and Advocacy for Peace and Good Governance, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, NDLEA has significantly increase in the number of arrests and seizures of illicit drugs, like cocaine, heroin, and cannabis, and has destroyed several drug farms and laboratories, disrupting the supply chain of illicit drugs.

He added that the agency has collaborated with international partners, such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), to strengthen its efforts.

Also speaking, the National President, National Youth Advocacy For Peace and Good Governance (NYAPGG), Comrade Abdullah Umar Khalid, in his remarks said the program was aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on individuals and society, provide education and resources for those struggling with addiction and their loved ones.

Khalid regretted that drug abuse is a complex and multifaceted problem that affects individuals, families, and communities and Nations worldwide. It is an issue that requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach to prevention, treatment, and recovery on drug addicted fellows.

He called for communities’ involvement and collaboration in addressing drug abuse, and to create a safer, healthier, and more supportive community and better society for all.

The 5th symposium was Themed: “Drug Abuse Kills Faster than AIDS, Danger of Drug Abuse and Solution of Drug Abuse”.
