Nigeria Police AIG, Garba Umar elected Interpol VP for Africa

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Garba Baba Umar, Head of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Nigeria, has been elected Vice President (Africa).

Umar is now an Executive Committee Member of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO).

The AIG was elected on Thursday at the 89th INTERPOL General Assembly in Istanbul, capital of Turkey.

In attendance were police chiefs, ministers and senior law enforcement officials from the 195 member countries.

Garba is criminal investigator and police manager with over thirty years of experience at national and international levels.

The top cop will be in office as VP for Africa till 2024, coordinating INPERPOL operations targeted at ensuring a safe continent.

Nigeria’s delegation to the Assembly was led by Minster of Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi.

On the team were Inspector General, Usman Baba; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rep by the Provost Marshal); and a rep of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
