The 1st #COVID19 death in Nigeria has been recorded. He was the former Managing Director of Pipeline and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, Suleiman Achimugu.
Achimugu, 67, returned back to Nigeria about two weeks ago from the United Kingdom, where he underwent medical treatment.
The first Coronavirus casualty in Nigeria was said to have exhibited symptoms on Tuesday and died overnight from coronavirus.
Family sources said he had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy. They added that they reported to the National Center for Disease Control, NCDC.
According to the family, NCDC officials took the blood specimen from late Suleiman Achimugu and never came back to them. Before his death, he was said to have coughed profusely which prompted the family to again call the NCDC to enquire about the blood specimen.
NCDC then confirmed the case to be Covid-19 positive and picked him to Gwagwalada isolation centre where he died at about 2 a.m. Monday.
The family is placed on isolation in their house while the NCDC will handle the burial of the first Nigerian Covid-19 casualty.
