Tolerance and mutual understanding of people’s cultures and values have been identified to be the key drivers of peace and unity which translates to national development
This was the opinion of many as Salem Academy located in the Lugbe axis of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja held its ninth cultural day celebration.
According to those who spoke at the event, Nigeria is a pluralistic society with diverse cultures and social heritage hence a clear understanding of each other’s individualism will help Nigerians appreciate their strength in diversity.
They also stressed the need to develop activities amongst the younger generation for them to appreciate the richness in Nigeria’s culture which is the essence of the cultural day held in the school.
While school administrators have set the ball rolling in bringing the younger generation to learn about other cultures different from theirs, they say the government must show commitment.
It is expected that forums like this to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage will encourage people to see the beauty and uniqueness that is found in all the tribes and languages that make up the world’s most populous black nation and not plant seeds of divisiveness in the polity.
Salem Academy, Lugbe Abuja, is a conventional private school established in 2007. The 2023 cultural day was the 9th time such an event took place in the school.
