A civil society organisation, Women’s Rights and Advancement and Protection Alternative WRAPA, is worried about the statistics of women and girls abuse in Nigeria.

At a two days stakeholders’ gathering in Abuja to discuss the way forward, the society said the challenge is pervasive in Nigeria’s northern states.

Violence against Women and girls (VAWG) is a blot on Nigeria’s social order.

The challenge is however more in the Northern States and Poverty, Ignorance and lack of patience have been identified as the factors that predispose the men to abuse girls and women.

According to 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, nineteen percent of women experience physical violence from age fifteen.

The organizers of the Abuja meeting are optimistic that with collective efforts, violence against women and girls will gradually end in Nigeria.
