The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chike Ihekweazu, has said that the centre was providing support to ensure the safe resumption of corps members at the orientation camps.
Ihekweazu stated that the NCDC had recommended the rapid diagnostic test for screening corps members as they come to camp, including a self-reporting form.
According to him, the tests were approved for use in specific settings by the World Health Organization, noting that it would be beneficial for the identification of COVID-19 cases for treatment given their high sensitivity and specificity.
Speaking at the PTF briefing in Abuja on Monday, the director-general said, ”We have been working with the ministry of youths and sports through the NYSC to put in place and strengthen the infection, prevention and control capacity of the NYSC camps.
“Beyond this, we are going to support the NYSC camps with authorities to ensure prompt identification of COVID-19 cases for treatment.
“Every corps member must fill this form before resuming. It is online; to make the process easier, we are going to provide a step-by-step guide on how to go about this as well as the guideline to stay safe.
“Each NYSC camp will have what is known as the IPC Vanguard, they will help to monitor compliance with the covid-19 preventive measures to significantly lower the risk of infection.”
