Ohanaeze chieftain kicks against calls for national dialogue over insecurity

Former spokesman of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu has faulted the call by southern Governors for a national conference following the myriads of economic and security challenges facing the country.

In a statement made available on Monday, Ibegbu said the country has had many national conferences and lamented the inability of successive and present administrations to implement their recommendations.

He called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led government to implement reports of previous national conferences held in the country, saying it would address the nation’s economic and infrastructural deficits as well the worsening insecurity in the land.

Recall that the governors, under the aegis of the Southern Nigeria Governors Forum (SNGF), had condemned and banned open grazing of animals and movement of cattle from the northern part of the country to the south.

The governors also called for a national conference to determine national questions bothering on the nature of Nigeria’s federalism and federal character in national appointments, among other issues.

But according to the former Ohanaeze scribe, “we do not need another national conference. We have had many in the past, whose resolutions have not been implemented.

“Let us implement them and Nigeria will be a better place, because, it has all solution to the challenges and agitations ravaging the country now”.

The ex-Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo lauded the ban on open grazing by Southern Nigeria governors and urged Fulani herdsmen to embrace modern ranching methods in their own interest and the nation.

Ibegbu urged all stakeholders and the citizenry to support government efforts to safeguard the southern region from killer herders and farmers clashes.

He called on Nigerians to repent of their sins and seek the face of God to heal the land and bring peace to the troubled land.

Ibegbu noted that if Nigerians seek the face of God and President Buhari become the father of all Nigerians and not a section of Nigeria, God will begin to hear the cries of Nigeria and heal her.

He noted that Nigeria remains the last hope of Africa and the black race and will be great if her leaders and people seek the face of God.
