In what looks like an apparent reply to the senate, the Presidency has said that it is only President Muhammadu Buhari that can sack Service Chiefs.

Reacting to the senate plenary resolution  earlier Tuesday that the Service Chiefs resign or get sacked for rising insecurity in the nation, especially the recent killing of soldiers and mass resignation in the military, the Presidency said it is only President Buhari that has the prerogative to appoint or sack service chiefs.

“Service Chiefs: Position of Presidency on resolution by the Senate,” the Presidency said in a statement.

The resolutions of the Senate followed consideration of a motion entitled: “Rising casualties among Nigerian soldiers and other security agencies” by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Borno South.

The lawmakers had in a motion at plenary appreciated the sacrifices being made by members of the Armed Forces in the fight against insurgency, but however, expressed concern over the recent killing of soldiers and other uniform officers as well as the reported mass resignation of over 200 soldiers fighting in the front lines.
