The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission has reiterated its commitment to conduct a free, fair and credible local government election in the state.
It said all the 18 political parties that would participate in the poll would be given a level-playing ground.
OYSIEC gave the assurance to the political parties through its chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, on Thursday during a visit to the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress.
The visit, Olagunju said, was to assure political parties in the state of the determination of OYSIEC board to make the will of the people count.
Giving details of the meeting held with the APC, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Azeez Olatunde, said OYSIEC maintained that it would provide a level-playing field for all political parties during the coming polls in the state.
“The Oyo State APC Caretaker Executive under the leadership of Chief Akin Oke received the leadership of Aare Isiaka Olagunju-led OYSIEC that paid a working visit to the APC secretariat.
“The chairman of OYSIEC informed the APC in Oyo State that upon inauguration by Governor Seyi Makinde, OYSIEC visited the Independent National Electoral Commission, where they were given names of 18 political parties that operate in Oyo State.
“The OYSIEC chairman informed us that the decision to visit the political parties instead of inviting them to its office for the meeting is to assure the political parties of its decision to bring a paradigm shift in making votes count.”
The APC Caretaker Chairman in the state, Chief Akin Oke, was said to have noted that the assignment given to the OYSIEC board was about strengthening democracy and the rule of law, adding that the APC would not relent in promoting good governance.
