Peter Obi Challenges UNN to Release His Academic Records
The 2027 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition, NDC, Peter Obi, has urged the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, to release his academic records following reports of a legal action seeking certified copies of his university credentials.
Obi, in a statement on Tuesday, said he had no objection to the release of his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, which he said was awarded by the university in 1984, as well as other records relating to his admission and studies.
The former Anambra State governor said UNN should make his certificates and other official academic documents available upon any legitimate request, subject to applicable laws and procedures.
Obi also extended the request to other institutions he attended within and outside Nigeria, saying he had no objection to the release of his academic records.
He described transparency and accountability as essential values for anyone seeking public office, while insisting that scrutiny of candidates must be conducted fairly, lawfully and consistently.
The NDC presidential candidate said he welcomed legitimate public interest in his qualifications and background, adding that he was prepared to undergo the level of scrutiny expected of anyone seeking the highest political office in the country.
Obi also challenged other presidential aspirants to make their educational qualifications and relevant records available for public scrutiny.
He said such transparency would help strengthen public confidence, promote accountability and rebuild Nigerians’ trust in political leadership.
