Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Shooting In Edo Community

The Edo Police Command has arrested two persons over an attack on the Igukpe community in Benin City, the Edo state capital, where the youth leader and one other person received gunshot injuries.

Spokesman of the Edo Police Command Moses Yamu confirmed the attack in a statement on Saturday.

“On 28/02/2025 at about 16:00hrs, the command received a report that one Edobor Edwin, the former Okiaghele of Iguikpe Community Benin-City led thugs to the community shooting sporadically, as a result, the incumbent Okiaghele of the community, Victor Ogierioba, and one Efe Agbaoghogho sustained fatal gunshots injuries on the stomach and face respectively,” Yamu said.

“Operatives of the Iyekogba Division alongside that of Operation Rescue responded swiftly and arrested one Osator surname not known and Edobor Edwin the principal suspect in the attack and restored normalcy to the area, while efforts are intensified to arrest other fleeing suspects of the attack,” the statement read.

He said the Commissioner of Police in Edo State Betty Otimenyin “has ordered the immediate transfer of the matter to the State CID”.

The commissioner was quoted as urging Edo residents to avoid taking laws⁷ into their hands as the police will no longer tolerate further acts of lawlessness in the state.
