Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the Kremlin wall, in Moscow, to mark the anniversary of the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany on June 22, 1941.
Adolf Hitler’s campaign against the Soviet Union was launched by a force known as Barbarossa which was the largest and most powerful invasion force in human history.
It was the beginning of a campaign that would ultimately decide World War two.
During the ceremony, Putin was joined by the newly appointed Russian Defense Minister, Andrei Belousov, as well as war veterans, acting military personnel and military universities graduates.
