Ramadan: Lagos directs Muslims to observe prayers at home

The Lagos State Government has directed Muslims across the State to observe their Taraweeh Prayers from home during the Ramadan period in line with the advise from the Holy Land.

Speaking with newsmen in Lagos on Friday, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi enjoined Muslim faithfuls to pray from home everyday so as to observe social distancing in line with the preventive measures on COVID-19 pandemic in the State.

Earlier on, the State Government had banned all forms of social, political or religious gatherings in the State due to the spread of the Coronavirus while giving a stay at home order to non – essential workers during the lockdown.

It will also be noted that Saudi Arabia on Monday banned Taraweeh prayers in Mecca and Medina directing all Muslims to observe prayers from home.

Furthermore, the Commissioner called on every Imam to direct all worshippers to pray from home when they make their call to prayers.

Elegushi wished all Muslims in the State Ramadan Kareem while urging them to seize the opportunity of the Ramadan to pray for God’s mercies upon our land and indeed our State.

He stating that with the various measures put in place by governments all over the world and particularly the Lagos State Government, there would be light at the end of the dark tunnel.
