REPS URGE FG TO IMPROVE WASTE MANAGEMENT, TELLS MULTI-CHOICE TO SUSPEND INCREASE IN SUBSCRIPTION RATES

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to strengthen waste management strategies to curb the rising threat of environmental pollution and its associated health risks across the country.

This followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Julius Pondi, the lawmaker representing Burutu Federal Constituency of Delta State, during plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the motion Pondi lamented the growing challenges Nigerians face in handling waste disposal, particularly in the oil and gas sector and manufacturing industries.

The House of Representatives in another motion by Eyose Iyawe called on digital satellite provider, multi-choice, owners of DSTV and GOTV, to suspend the recent increase it’s subscription rates.

A bill to amend the federal polytechnics act to review the functions of the polytechnics, sponsored by the speaker, Tajudeen Abbas passed second reading.

The bill also seeks to address the challenge of dichotomy between polytechnics and universities.
