‘Sanusi on exile, won’t have access to visitors’

Following his dethronement as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been taken to an undisclosed remote location in Nasarawa state where he would be put under house arrest and won’t have access to any visitor, Daily Trust learnt. Sanusi, who was removed on Monday over alleged disrespect to the office of the governor and other government agencies, according to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, had been in a running battle with the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
It was gathered that Sanusi was escorted out of the palace with heavy security at about 4:30pm. Confirming the latest development via his official Twitter handle: @Dawisu, the Director-General, Media and Communications, Kano State Government, Salihu Yakasai, faulted criticisms of Sanusi’s sympathizers, who are advising him to jostle for Presidential seat in 2023. “Clearly, some people are ignorant of how dethronement works. When an Emir is dethroned, he is sent to exile in a remote location and will basically be under house arrest and won’t have access to visitors.
A person under this circumstance will be after his freedom and not the next election,” he tweeted. It was earlier reported that security was beefed up in the ancient city before the state government’s announcement of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
