Senate may compel Akpabio to appear before it as he shuns NDDC probe
The Nigerian Senate may compel the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to appear before it unfailingly as he has snubbed invitations by the Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating alleged financial recklessness by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
This followed the absence of Senator Akpabio, at an investigative public hearing on the alleged financial recklessness in the NDDC on Thursday.
The Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating the allegation , Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, expressed disappointment at the minister at the resumed public hearing at the National Assembly, Abuja.
The lawmaker was not happy that the Niger Delta Affairs Minister had refused to acknowledge or respond to correspondences from his committee.
Senator Adetunmbi also accused Akpabio of not responding to the letter requesting him to provide an update on the forensic audit he is supervising at the commission.
He said the excuse by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Aminu Bisalla, that Akpabio was attending to some national issues, was unacceptable.
