NIMC to begin Tokenization Solution by 1st of January

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of The National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Abubakar Aziz on Thursday said the Federal Government will commence the full implementation of the tokenization solution on January 1, 2022.
The Director-General who made the disclosure in Abuja at a stakeholder workshop on tokenization solution said the system will provide a coded representation of the actual NIN for which another party verifying the identity of the registered person cannot retain and use it in a way that puts the individual’s data privacy at risk.
It is to ensure the privacy of personal identifiable information of individuals during verification transactions and reduce incidences of illegal retrieval, usage, transfer, and storage of NIN.

 

INEC to invest in technology with N305bn budgeted To Conduct 2023 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will invest the N305 billion required to conduct the 2023 elections on the commission’s technological needs for effective electoral conduct.
The commission is introducing a new multi-functional technology in the electoral process that will take care of voter registration issues, accreditation of voters, and issues of uploading and transmission of electoral results.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Festus Okoye, hinted that part of the money will be used to conduct elections in some states where the gubernatorial polls fall outside the regular schedule.

 

Governor Umahi Says No Battle Between Lawmakers And Governors Concerning Electoral Bill

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, on Wednesday said there is no battle between federal lawmakers and governors over the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday written to the National Assembly refusing to assent to the bill, citing security concerns and the cost of adopting direct primary for political parties.
Despite commending the lawmakers for efforts taken on the bill, the governor argued that the major problem with the document is the direct primary clause.
