NLC Rejects Petrol Price Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded the immediate reversal of the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

In a statement on Monday by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, the union took a swipe at the government and condemned the increase in the price of the product.

It stated that the recent hike in petrol pump price has worsened the level of pain and anguish in the country.

The union insisted that the nation would not have been in its present position if the government had been alive to its responsibilities.

It warned that Nigerians have a limit to tolerating the continued increase in the price of refined petroleum products and other essential goods and services.

 

Gunmen Kill Eleven in Kaduna Village Attack

At least eleven people have been killed and many others injured by bandits suspected to be kidnappers who attacked Albasu village of Sabon Birnin in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

The bandits in their large numbers were said to have invaded the community at about 1 pm on Monday afternoon, and opened fire on the residents, shooting in different directions, and in the process killed many people, and also rustled cows and other animals belonging to the locals.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, says Security agencies are already pursuing the bandits in the area with a view to arresting them.

 

TROUBLE FOR IGP OVER GIRL RAPED TO DEATH

The family of Elizabeth Ochanya, the 13- year old girl who was allegedly raped to death by a lecturer and his son, has threatened to storm the police headquarters to force the police to arrest and prosecute one of the accused persons.

In Abuja on Monday, some members of the victim’s family and the Federal Government Girls College Gboko, old girl’s association told journalists that they suspect foul play in the police handling of the case.

 

Nigeria’s Inflation jumps to 14.23%

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Consumer Price Index (CPI) says inflation has risen by 0.52 percent to 14.23 percent in October.

The NBS report, which was released in Abuja on Monday, said that the CPI, which measures inflation, was higher than 13.71 percent recorded in September.

The CPI measures the average change over time in prices of goods and services consumed by people for day-to-day living.

There has been a steady rise in the inflation rate from 11.24 percent since September 2019.

 

Peru Gets New President, The Third in One Week

Peru’s Congress on Monday chose a 76-year-old former World Bank official as the South American country’s new president, the third in a week.

Francisco Sagasti was elected as lawmakers met to try to find a way out of a political crisis, sparked by the impeachment of one popular president and the resignation of his controversial successor amid protests which killed two people.

Sagasti, a centrist, will serve as interim president until the end of July 2021, completing the mandate of Martin Vizcarra, who was impeached by Congress last Monday.
