LASU Students, Activist to Join Sanwo-Olu in ‘Lagos Peace Walk’

Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Thursday expressed their readiness to participate in the ‘Lagos Peace Walk,’ proposed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to herald the healing of Lagos in the aftermath of last year’s EndSARS protests in the state.

The students made their resolve during the first council session to be held at the newly built students’ Arcade, inaugurated by the governor.

The Student Union Government (SUG) President, Oladipupo Uthman Badmus, during the sitting of the Students Representatives Council, promised Sanwo-Olu that the students would participate in the ‘Walk for Peace’

A human rights activist and member of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry over alleged police brutality, in the October 20, 2020 incident at the Lekki toll plaza, Segun Awosanya also said he would join Sanwo-Olu in the proposed peace walk.


Zamfara govt bars its officials from speaking to media

The Zamfara State government has placed a ban on officials from the state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) from speaking to the media or disseminating information regarding policies and programs of the government.

The gag order was given on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, while addressing journalists in Gusau, the state capital.

According to Dosara, the state government decided to settle for a centralized information management to curtail the spread of fake news and misinformation to the people

He informed  journalists that any information from any government official on behalf of the state government, other than the Commissioner for Information or the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media,   is invalid.


124 persons arrested, convicted for open defecation in Ogun

At least, 124 persons have been arrested by the Ogun State Government for engaging in open defecation within the State.

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, Ola Oresanya, said the arrested persons were prosecuted and sentenced to community service for contravening the State’s environmental and health laws.

According to Oresanya, 82 of the offenders were arrested in the Mowe-Ibafo axis of Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of the State.

The arrest, Oresanya said, was part of efforts aimed at ending open defecation and maintaining the environmental safety of the people.

He stressed that the arrest of the offenders would be a continuous exercise, saying Ogun has zero tolerance for open defecation.


Nigeria, Chad to Partner On Power Interconnection

The federal government has promised continuous interaction on power interconnection with the Republic of Chad.

Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, while receiving the Chadian Ambassador, Abakar Saleh Chahaimi, stressed Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and willingness to resuscitate engagement between Nigeria and Chad, maintaining that directors of the ministry with institutional memory of the engagements will kick-start the interaction.

He  noted that Nigeria is geographically closer to Chad and also shares cultural values than some other African countries, emphasizing  the need for the partnership of mutual benefits to both nations.

Reacting to Aliyu’s Promise, the Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Saleh Chahaimi, requested that the proposed partnership on interconnection be reopened stating that both countries stand the chance to benefit in the partnership.


Rangnick ‘To Be Handed £100m January Budget At United’

Manchester United have prepared to hand new interim head coach Ralf Rangnick as much as hundred million euro .to spend during the January transfer window.

Rangnick will manage the Red Devils for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign before taking on a two-year consultancy role, where he is expected to be involved in bringing new players to the club.

According to reports, Man United are confident that the German can turn the team’s season around and are prepared to hand him a winter budget of hundred million euro .

Rangnick is also believed to be ready to explore the idea of signing Timo Werner from Chelsea, with the Blues thought to be open to selling the Germany international.
