President Buhari departs to London for a medical check, summit

 

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja this Monday for London to see his doctors and participate in the Global Education Summit on Financing Global Partnership for Education (GPE) 2021-2025.

The President was initially scheduled to go to the UK last month but called it off.

In a statement by media adviser, Femi Adesina, Buhari will spend a few days, after the education summit for an earlier scheduled medical check-up.

He is due back by the second week of August 2021.

The Summit, which will be co-hosted by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, and the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, will bring together Heads of State and Government as well as stakeholders and youth leaders. #

IPOB members arrested at Abuja federal high court

Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were detained by the police on Monday as they converged on the federal high court in Abuja for Nnamdi Kanu’s trial.

The IPOB members were singing slogans in support of Kanu and demanding his freedom.

Two of them wore Jewish apparel.

Nnamdi Kanu leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) trial is scheduled to continue today after he was arrested and extradited to Nigeria in June. #

 

PDP governors meet Monday over the state of the nation

Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) will on Monday meet in Bauchi, to deliberate on unemployment and the state of the Nigerian economy.

Director-General, PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF), CID Maduabum disclosed this on Sunday.

Maduabum said that PDP governors would, at the meeting, examine and deliberate on the current state of the nation, and the state of their respective States.

Maduabum said the meeting would continue to interrogate the Federal Government’s response to the insecurity that was still pervading the country and proffer workable solutions.

The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, would be the Chief Host, while the Forum Chairman, would preside over the meeting. #

Tunisian President Suspends Parliament, Sacks PM

Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the suspension of the country’s parliament and the dismissal of Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi following a day of protests against the ruling party.

Car horns sounded after Saied made the announcement on Sunday following an emergency meeting at his palace.

Earlier, thousands of Tunisians had marched in several cities protesting about government failures in the North African nation and crippling coronavirus rates. #

 

Tokyo Olympics: D’Tigers Lose Opening Group B Match To Australia

 

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers have lost 84-67 to Australia in their opening Group B match at the Tokyo Olympics.

Two weeks ago in Las Vegas, the Boomers were 39 points better than Nigeria but in Sunday’s encounter at the Saitama Super Arena, Coach Mike Brown’s team got off to a good start but in the crucial stages of the match, poor shooting let them.

Australia won Nigeria 20-17.

The D’Tigers will hope to make amends when they take on Germany in their second group match on Wednesday, 28th July. #
