ASUU Suspends Nine-Month-Old Strike

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday “conditionally” suspended its strike, ending a protracted industrial action that started since March 2020.

ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja, explaining that the development followed consultations with its National Executive Council (NEC). #

Yuletide: DSS Uncovers Plot To Bomb Selected Public Places

The Department of State Services (DSS) has uncovered a plot by some suspected criminals to bomb selected public places in the country during the yuletide period.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, the secret service called on Nigerians to be extra vigilant, adding that they should report strange movements and suspicions to the relevant security agencies.
The DSS spokesman explained that the aim of the criminals is to create a general sense of fear among the people and subsequently undermine the Federal Government. #

President Buhari Extends PTF Mandate Till March 2021

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the mandate of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 until March 2021.

He gave the approval on Tuesday at a meeting with members of the task force at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

At the meeting, President Buhari received the end-of-year report of the task force led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
He noted that the mandate of the PTF was extended for a further period of three months, bearing in mind the new surge in the number of cases and the bid for vaccines. #

17 passengers die in Kogi motor accident

Seventeen people have perished in a ghastly motor accident at at Irepeni on Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway in Kogi State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Kogi, Mr Solomon Aghure, confirmed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He said that the accident, which occurred at about 5am, involved two vehicles in a collision
Aghure said that the two vehicles, a luxury bus and a Toyota Hiace were both conveying a total of 55 passengers to different destinations.
He said that 15 passengers died on the spot while two others died in hospital, bringing the total number of casualties to 17. #

Cooking gas price rises 20% on weak naira
The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, sold to marketers in the country has risen by over 20 per cent in the past one month, with consumers paying more for the product.

The naira plunged on November 30th to 500Naira per dollar at the parallel market, its lowest level in more than three years, from around N462/$1 at the start of the month. It traded at 476 against the greenback on Tuesday.
It was gathered that terminal operators and importers increased the price of 20 metric tonnes of LPG to N5.3million Naira on Monday from an average of N4.4million Naira a month ago.

A gas plant visited, refilled a 12.5kg cylinder for LPG for N4,000 Naira on Tuesday, up from N3,200 Naira in November. #
