Pardon for Kano man Sharif sentenced to death by Sharia court
Kano-based singer Yahaya Aminu Sharif was saved from the gallows by the Appeal Court on Thursday, over a death sentence passed on him by a Sharia court for blasphemy.
The Appeal Court quashed his conviction and ordered a retrial.
The teenager Omar Farouq, who was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment also got a reprieve. He was acquitted.
Both cases triggered an international outcry.
The two had been convicted in August by a sharia court in Kano.
Teenager Farouq was accused of making blasphemous comments during an argument, while Sharif was accused of having shared a blasphemous message on WhatsApp. #

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that restructuring alone cannot solve Nigeria’s problem.
Jonathan gave the remark on Thursday while speaking at the 18th Daily Trust Dialogue.

Zamfara Governor threatens crackdown as bandits kill 19 in the state
Thirteen people were killed, while 11 others were kidnapped in Zamfara State when a security meeting between Governor Bello Muhammad, traditional rulers, security agents, and religious leaders was being held at the Government House on Thursday.
Addressing the participants, the governor said the incident happened in Bingi and Nahuche towns of Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state.
Expressing surprise at how the bandits always attacked and killed people whenever he traveled out of the state Governor Bello said he has done everything within his powers to end banditry through dialogue. #
