Soludo, Obi, Umeh lament voter apathy in Anambra

Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi and LP Senator-elect, Victor Umeh, wept Saturday over voter apathy in the State.

During the election, five persons suspected to be thugs of one of the political parties in the State were arrested by the security operatives.

The suspects were arrested at Ihiala local government area, during the House of Assembly elections.

Anambra Commissioner of Police for Anambra election, Adeyemi Adoye, said the suspects were arrested with five pump action guns.

He warned that the security operatives were out to deal with election riggers who wanted to cause violence in the State.

Also, some suspected armed thugs who allegedly, invaded Metu Memorial Primary school in Odoakpu in Onitsha South scattered ballot boxes, cart away phones belonging to voters.

The hoodlums invaded the polling units injuring 16 ad-hoc Staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They snatched and destroyed many ballot boxes. But the hoodlums left before security could arrive the scene, voting stopped thereafter as INEC officials stopped further work and they left around 12: 00 pm

Obi and Umeh spoke at their various voting centres in Agulu and Aguluzigbo, Anaocha local government area of Anambra State respectively, lamented the low turnout of voters.

Obi, said the reason could be what transpired during the presidential election where people’s votes did not count.

He said he had never been involved in vote buying, adding that he had confidence in those fielded for the election in different states by LP.

Obi said the voters were frustrated during the 25 February election where their votes failed to count, adding that it could be the reason for the low turnout

Umeh blamed the same fact for the low turnout in his Aguluzigbo Ward where people did not come out to vote.
