The Magistrates Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital has remanded the four culprits suspected in the murder of the daughter of afenifere leader, Pa Rueben Fasoranti, Mrs
Funke Olakunri, at the Owo facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The culprits; Lawal Mazaje, Adamu Adamu, Mohammed Shehu Usman and Auwal Abubakar were members of the eight man gang that allegedly killed the 58 years old woman.
The four culprits were docked on a four counts charge which includes – felony to wit murder, murder and kidnapping.
They were dragged before the Chief Magistrate Victoria Bob- Manuel by the police on Friday.
At the sitting of the court, it was observed that the four culprits had no legal representation.
Bob-manuel, the trial Judge in the case agreed that since the suspects had no legal representation they should be remanded in the prison custody pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Speaking, the Commissioner for Justice and State Attorney General who led the prosecution, Mr. Adekola Olawoye said the government would ensure justice prevail at the end of the case.
“It is our duty at the ministry of justice to see that we keep due diligence to the prosecution of the case”, he said.
In his words the counsel to the Olakunri’s family, Barrister Sola Ebiseni said the family was ready to work with the government in ensuring that the deceased get justice.
The court later adjourned the case for further hearing on the till 3rd of June, 2020.
The officials of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) were later called to administered the COVID-19 test on the suspects before they were moved into the Correctional service.
